THIRD EPISCOPAL DISTRICT ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT FUND

For almost two years we have been provided presentations on the Re-Districting of the Third Episcopal District. Re-Districting is also about rethinking, it is about re-evaluating, it is about re-vamping our resources to aid the local churches. The Third Episcopal District Economic Development Corporation is a step to stabilize and sustain our future. This is our first step together; a step taken by all members of the District by participating in redirecting the future of how we aid each other in making the Third District a stronger District by putting in place a five year plan to move us to financial stability.

  1. The first order of business is that we need you. We need participation of all members of the Third Episcopal District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. We need your prayers. We need you to see a new vision of Episcopal District stability and sustainability.
  2. We need you to commit to joining those who have already committed to the plan of stability and sustainability through a small financial pledge. The pledge of $10.00 per month will allow the district to establish two funding streams. This will give all 22,500 members of the Third Episcopal District the opportunity to contribute $10.00 a month for five years to generate a multi-million dollar fund.
  3. Rev. Dr. Charles Holmes recommended the development of the Self Perpetuating Trust Fund (SPTF)of the Third Episcopal District. Of the $10.00 per month, $8.33 will be contributed to this fund. The principle will not be touched as it earns interest for the first five years. The principle will continue to grow because the principle will not be distributed. The interest generated after the fifth year will be available to the Economic Development Corporation for support and distribution to aid the local churches and district auxiliaries.
  4. The second order of business is to put a structure in place to maintain the assets of the District, the local church buildings. We fund the loans; we become the lender to the local church. Repayment of loans will generate a revolving loan fund and a second stream of income to make more loans. The balance of $10.00 per month, $1.67 will be seed money for the formulation and operation of the Third Episcopal District Economic Development Corporation (TEDEDC) Fund.
  5. To begin the Self Perpetuating Trust Fund (SPTF) and the Third Episcopal District Economic Development Corporation (TEDEDC) Fund, we are asking the members of the Third District to donate ten dollars per month for five years. The allocation formula for funds received will be 83.3% to the SPTF and 16.7% to the TEDEDC Fund.

a. For example – an individual giving $10/month for one year = $120.00. The SPTF will receive $100.00 and the TEDEDC Fund will receive $20.00.
b. For the five year period the individual donation will total $600.00. The SPTF will receive $500.00 and the TEDEDC Fund will receive $100.00
c. Individuals may choose to donate $10.00 a month or an annual contribution of $120.00/year or a one-time five year donation of $600.00 to the Third Episcopal District AME Church and notation “The Economic Development Fund.”

6. Upon recommendation by the Third District Stewardship and Finance Commission, the Third District Mid-Year Convocation delegation supported the development of the Third Episcopal District Economic Development Corporation as the umbrella legal entity for our work. This will include the constitution and by-laws and the operational policies and procedures. This fund will be set-up separately from the Third District Administration. Each annual conference will be asked to confirm and participate
fully.
7. The Rev. Louise Jackson is the chairperson of the SPTF Sub-Committee. Committee members: Dr. Willie Glover, Rev. Dr. Earl Harris, Rev. Dr. Charles Holmes, Ms. Ametta Reaves and Mr. Theodore Whitaker.
8. The Rev. Madonna Gray is the chairperson of the TEDEDC Fund Sub-Committee. Committee members: Ms. Kim Brooks, Mr. Michael Goss, Rev. Dr. Betty Holley, Mr. Charles Lipscomb and Rev. Dale Snyder.
9. The Third Episcopal District Office will serve as the fiduciary agent for the SPTF and the TEDEDC Fund. Donations to the Economic Development Fund are to be sent to the Third Episcopal District AME Church Office, 288 South Hamilton Road, Columbus, Ohio 43213, Attn: Economic Development Fund or online www.ame3b.3dame.org to donations/contributions link.
10. As we progress, quarterly reports will be given to the Third Episcopal District churches and auxiliaries and reports given in each Episcopal District meeting.
11. We are pleased to report that initial donations were received in the amount of $3,400.00 to the Self Perpetuating Trust Fund and $520.00 to the TEDEDC Fund.
We will begin sharing preliminary information with all of our District churches and auxiliaries to invite their full participation in our program toward Episcopal District stability and sustainability. We have a rich history but our history has gotten lost in our financial needs. How do we impact our future? We plan for that future. We start small, only $10.00 a month which equates to $120.00 per year. And watch our resources grow. This is a five year plan where we together re-direct our future. We will not be successful
without you. We are asking for ten dollars. We are asking for your best. We are asking you to believe that as we build a financial foundation, our Christian witness in the life of the Third Episcopal District and community will be stronger.

If you desire to have a presentation of this plan given at your local church please contact the Reverend Dr. Charles Holmes at 937-837-7862 or 937-623-4297.

“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and
greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.” John 14:12 (NKJV)
